Shinya Hashizume, Specially Appointed Professor at Osaka Prefecture University
Mr. Shinya Hashizume is a researcher in architectural history, urban culture, and various other fields relevant to cities such as events and entertainment. He has held a variety of important positions including Director of the Research Institute for Tourism Industry and Specially Appointed Professor at Osaka Prefecture University, Specially Appointed Professor at the Osaka City University Urban Research Plaza, and policy adviser for the Osaka prefectural government.
Mr. Hashizume is also known as an intellectual with a deep affection for his hometown, Osaka. His love for the region is so strong that in 2007 he decided to run for mayor of Osaka City as an independent. During the election campaign he developed a manifesto by holding numerous town meetings with residents of Osaka City. Unfortunately, however, he lost in the election despite strong popular support. But, people do not leave such a capable person alone, and currently he serves as an adviser for the Osaka prefectural government.
