Background and Goals of Biodiversity Collaboration Forum

2018/02/20

Biodiversity Collaboration Forum is a consortium formed in June 2011 to promote biodiversity as a mainstream issue in the Kansai region through cooperation among various entities. Since August 2011, the Forum has disseminated information, offered opportunities for information exchange through symposiums, and conducted joint research on solutions to biodiversity issues. This paper describes the social background leading to, and the intentions behind, the creation of the Forum; explains ways to run a symposium that achieve information dissemination to a large audience and active information exchange among participants; outlines joint research conducted to promote biodiversity-related efforts by local governments and companies; and calls for consideration of new projects needed to continue making biodiversity a mainstream issue in the Kansai region, taking into account the activities of the Forum discussed in the following chapters.
