[News Letter]Memorandum of Understanding with the Royal Danish Embassy in Japan

We are pleased to announce that Mitsubishi UFJ Research and Consulting Co., Ltd. (Headquartered in Tokyo, President: Satoshi Murabayashi, also “MURC”) and the Royal Danish Embassy in Japan (Tokyo, Ambassador Peter Taksøe-Jensen) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to share knowledge of both parties in order to develop future-minded sustainable cities.

1．Background

As urbanization is progressing globally, it is required to develop smart cities that utilize digital technology in an environmentally friendly manner. MURC has knowledge as a think tank in digital government and smart city through global network, such as concluding a memorandum of understanding with Business Finland. Denmark is a developed country of digital and smart cities in Europe and ranked third in the European DESI (Digital Economy and Social Index) published in June 2020*1. And Denmark is ranked second in the achievement of SDGs 2*2, and it is good at nation-building that is in harmony with the environment, such as aiming for decarbonizing by 2050.
MURC and Denmark will work together to share best practices and expertise in areas such as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate change, carbon neutral, circular economy, urban planning of smart city and sustainability, disseminate information and policy recommendations.

２．Overview of organization

■Royal Danish Embassy

The main purpose of embassy operations is to create Danish value in Japan and to strengthen good relations between Japan and Denmark. We are promoting trade relations between the two countries by supporting Danish companies wishing to export to Japan and promoting them to Japanese companies interested in investing in Denmark.
